Strategies to get the optimal Charleston area vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Filter your search:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Elegant Downtown Charleston - 2 Bedroom \/ 2 Bath has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is best for your group.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you simply love, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
