Our top Rental property booking tips:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Book your Charleston area rental in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First, have your family choose the best dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Battery Suite
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before reserving your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is best for your trip.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
