How to book the best Charleston rental home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing and booking the best Charleston area rental:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Historic Charleston Charm has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you crave, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
More considerations:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Call the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
