Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to pick the best rental home in the Charleston area area:
- Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Beautifully Restored Downtown Apartment has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to stimulate more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
