Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect rental home experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- To get the best rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfect Charleston area rental home:
- Select your vacation dates and max budget.
- Luxury Suite with Pool has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is often available online. Otherwise, email the host before you book the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is best for your family.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
More tips for your stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home.
