Rental property booking tips:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local shops and restaurants.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- To start, have your family select dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Cute & Cozy Cottage Inside Wild Dunes Resort, Short Walk to the Beach! Perfect for a Relaxing Stay! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your family.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Have a great stay:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
