Our top Charleston vacation rental home tips:
When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:
- Summer is high season in Charleston. Reserve your Charleston area vacation in Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Some hosts offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. The Ashley Carriage House Suite Includes Breakfast has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the host before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your vacation family.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you simply love, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- During check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
