Charleston area rental booking tips and tricks:
Finding your best deal:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in Isle of Palms. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Charleston area attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
How to pick the best rental in the Charleston area area:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Gorgeous Home in the Beachside Community w\/ Community Pool and Tennis Facilities! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what bed configuration is best for your group.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your visit:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
