How to get the best Charleston area rental home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your rental search:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. SUNRISE (3BR) Best of Charleston Award has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If not, contact the host before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what is best for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
