Our top Vacation rental booking tips:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- Reserve your rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing the rightrental:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Luxurious Home on the Water. Sleeps 7 on Ground Level. \n10 mins to downtown. \n has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your family.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Call the host right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
