Finding the best rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- To get the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines that include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. The King
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property management company before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- During check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home.
