Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston rental home experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Booking your Charleston area vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines that include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by choosing your trip dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Boutique Home & Resort Pool ‘The Cisco’ has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Charleston area destination you love, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Have a fantastic stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
