How to find the best rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guides have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Choosing and booking the perfect Charleston area rental home:
- First, have your group choose the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Adorable Beach Home on Quiet Street \/ Short 1 Block Walk to Beach \/ Screen Porch! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
