Tricks and tips for getting the best Charleston rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your Charleston area rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting the perfect vacation rental:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Historic Downtown Home w\/ Parking has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a specific Charleston area destination you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
