Strategies to get the perfect Charleston vacation property experience:
Get the best rental value:
- Booking in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Peaceful with most spectacular marsh views near the beach & Downtown Charleston. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If not, email or call the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
