Strategies to get the best Charleston vacation home experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best rental home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectrental:

  • Start by having your family choose a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Peaceful with most spectacular marsh views near the beach & Downtown Charleston. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
