Tricks and tips to get the best vacation property experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, try shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines that include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting the best vacation rental:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Centrally located condo, Renovated, Pool & Pier access, Close to beach - 204A Oceanside has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is suitable for your group.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
During your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
