How to find the best rental home experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best value, shift your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Planning, picking, and booking your prefect Charleston area rental home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. The Iris, Signature Suite has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
