Booking the best Charleston rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Book your rental home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Finding the best vacation home:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Folly River Condo - Pool \/ Dock \/ Balcony with a view! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. If not, call the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or might be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
