Tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:
When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a rental home:
- June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. Booking your Charleston area vacation home in Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- First, have your group select dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. 2 bed\/ 2 bath! Fenced in yard-close to the beach and dwntn CHS! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. Otherwise, email the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is optimal for your group.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your visit, record any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the property manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to compel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
