Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- To get the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to choose the best rental home:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Downtown Condo 1 Block to King with Private Patio has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make certain that damages are not linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
