Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental home experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Charleston. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing and booking the rightrental home:
- Select dates and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Downtown Tropical Paradise with 4bd\/2ba and Porch\/Courtyard has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the rental manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
