Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Charleston area vacation property experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Booking in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Oceanfront 3BR, 3BTH, 2nd Floor, Beach Front IOP has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to inspire future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
