Strategies to get the best rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Charleston. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and choose the perfectrental home:
- First and foremost, have your group select vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Walk to King
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your trip.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
Advice for your stay:
- Add the property manager's information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. message the rental manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
