Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Summer time is high season in Charleston. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Charleston area trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing and booking your prefectrental home:
- Select your vacation week and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Downtown Historic Condo Steps to King St has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. message the host immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
