How to find the best Charleston area rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To get the largest rental within your budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First, have your family choose a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Downtown Historic Condo Steps to King St has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Additional considerations:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- During check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
