Strategies to get the optimal vacation property experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- To get the best rental home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
Planning and picking your Charleston area rental home:
- First, have your family select the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. The Kronos Suite 2 Bedrooms 2 Blocks to King St has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property management company before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
