Tips and Tricks for getting the best rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To get the best value, try shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your rental search:
- Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Downtown Charleston - Large Groups - Sleeps 20! has 9 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your family.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you love, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
Know before you go:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
