Tips and Tricks to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- To get the best rental within budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting the best vacation home in Charleston:
- Choose dates and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Downtown Charleston - Large Groups - Sleeps 20! has 9 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Advice for a great stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
