Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Charleston area vacation property experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Booking your Charleston area vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Second row back from the beach, cornhole court, putting green, private pool! - 2307 Palm has 9 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. message the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
