Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Booking in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes.
- The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Choosing and booking the best Charleston area rental:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Deluxe Two Bedroom Suite - Steps to King Street has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. Otherwise, call the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a specific Charleston area beach you simply love, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
Advice for a great stay:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas during arrival. message the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
- Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
