Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental experience:
When to visit Isle of Palms & When to book:
- The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Booking your Charleston area vacation home in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectvacation home:
- To start, have your group choose the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. 3rd Floor Condo w\/Amazing Ocean Views! Pool & Pier Access! In Heart of IOP! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a specific Charleston area beach you are crazy about, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
