Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- To find the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking the right Charleston area rental:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront Villa in Wild Dunes Hot Tub & Community Pool! Great Views! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is best for your vacation family.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
