Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- Reserve your Charleston area vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain coupons for local shops and restaurants.
Filter your search:
- Choose vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Charming Secluded Courtyard - 1 BLOCK TO KING! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
