Strategies to get the best rental experience:
When to reserve a Charleston area rental home & When to go:
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. To find the best value, change your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Start by selecting your trip dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Elegance
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a certain Charleston area destination you crave, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- During arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to propel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
