Tricks and tips to get the optimal Charleston area vacation home experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area rental property in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing the best rental in the Charleston area area:

  • Select a group lead, choose your dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Petunia Suite
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your group.
  • Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • During arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
