Strategies for getting the best Charleston rental experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- To book the best vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Charleston area attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines that include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Petunia Suite
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or could be applied to your contract.
More considerations:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
