Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston area rental experience:
Finding your best deal:
- Book your Charleston area rental home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting and booking a perfect Charleston area vacation home:
- Choose dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Charming Downtown - 5 Bedroom Historic Home has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
