Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Vacation Villa 5 mins to King ‘The Palmetto Palm’ has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your trip.
- If there's a specific Charleston area destination you crave, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
