Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston vacation home experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:
- Summer time is high season in Charleston. Booking your Charleston area vacation home in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
How to select the perfect vacation rental in Charleston:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Vacation Villa 5 mins to King ‘The Palmetto Palm’ has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
