Rental home tips and tricks:

Find your perfect rental:

  • To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the best vacation home in Charleston:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Entire Home Rental in Downtown Charleston! has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas during arrival. Contact the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to propel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
