Tips and Tricks to get the best Charleston rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer months are high season in Charleston. To find the best rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. The Retreat at Felix! Rooftop Lounge Space has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
