Tips and Tricks to get the very best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the best vacation rental:
- First, have your group select trip dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Elegant End-unit Townhouse in Historic Charleston has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If not, contact the property owner before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
Know before you go:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. text the host right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
- Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
