Strategies to get the optimal vacation property experience:
When to go & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Charleston area trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing the best vacation rental in Charleston:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Elegant End-unit Townhouse in Historic Charleston has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your vacation family.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you love, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
