Getting the best Isle of Palms rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your Search:
- First, have your family decide on trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Beautifully Remodeled Modern, Yet Charming Beach Home w\/Ocean Views & Private Pool! Quiet Location! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's an individual Charleston area destination you long to visit, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
