Tips and Tricks for getting the best Charleston area rental experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to choose the best vacation home:
- To start, have your group commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 1 Intracoastal - Golf Views, Private Pool, Screen Porch, Theatre Room! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation family.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Call the rental manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
