Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
When to reserve a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- June, July, and August are high season in Isle of Palms. Reserve your Charleston area rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Near Beach + Pools has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
