Getting the best vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
Planning and choosing the bestrental:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Coastal Manor~ 6 bdrm, across from ocean, Ocean Views!, Private Pool and Hot Tub, Elevator! has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the host before booking the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Have a great stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
