Tricks and tips to get the very best Charleston area vacation property experience:
Get the best value:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Summertime is high season in Charleston. To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First, have your family decide on trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. 2 Bed Great Location - Close to King Street has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
During your stay:
- Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your stay, note any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
