Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Finding the best value:
- Summer is high season in Charleston. To book the largest rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and picking a perfect Charleston area rental:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. THE INNS - Lovely 3BR Suite! Heart of Downtown! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If they are not listed, email the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your group.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- During arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
