Tips for getting the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Charleston rental home:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting and booking yourvacation home:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. THE INNS - Lovely 3BR Suite! Heart of Downtown! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If not, call the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your group.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your contract.
- If there's a certain Charleston area destination you are enamored with, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
