Getting the best rental home experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- To get the best value, change your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose vacation dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Luxurious Penthouse - Steps from King Street has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you long to visit, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- During check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
