Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston area rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Charleston. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting the best rental:
- Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Thomas Waring House
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is optimal for your group.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of issues.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- During check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
