Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation property experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Choosing and booking the perfectvacation home:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. 3 Twin Oaks Lane by AvantStay
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is optimal for your trip.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
