Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Charleston vacation home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.
How to choose and book the right Charleston area rental home:
- Begin by choosing your a vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. The West Grand
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you simply love, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
