How to find the best Charleston area rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. To book the largest rental home for your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Renovated townhome w\/ Pool and Tennis courts - 39 Linkside has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If they are not listed, call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- If there's a specific Charleston area destination you long to visit, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
