Rental home tips:
How to get the best value:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. To find the best value, shift your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, picking, and booking your prefect Charleston area rental:
- Start by having your family agree to trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. 3 bedroom marsh & sunset views. NON SMOKING home 5 minutes from Folly Beach. has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
- Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
