Strategies for getting the perfect rental experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfect Charleston area rental home:
- Start by selecting your vacation dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 3 bedroom marsh & sunset views. NON SMOKING home 5 minutes from Folly Beach. has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
