Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area vacation property experience:
Finding the best value:
- The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Booking your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Planning and choosing the right Charleston area vacation home:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 3 bedroom marsh & sunset views. NON SMOKING home 5 minutes from Folly Beach. has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Tips for your stay:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
- During arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
